Heavy Rain Raises Great Sacandaga Lake Water Levels | July 31, 2026

The Great Sacandaga Lake water levels after rain have changed significantly this week following several days of heavy rainfall across New York’s Capital Region. While many communities dealt with flooding and storm damage, the additional rainfall brought much-needed water back into the lake.

Water Levels Rise More Than One Foot

On July 28, the Great Sacandaga Lake measured 762.90 feet. By July 31, the lake had climbed to 764.03 feet, an increase of 1.13 feet in just three days.

As the day progressed on July 31, the lake level gradually dropped a few inches. That’s expected as water continues moving through the system.

Although a large amount of runoff is still making its way into the lake, the regulating district is maintaining a fairly steady outflow. If current conditions continue, lake levels should slowly return to where they had been before this week’s storms.

Water Temperature Update

According to LakeMonster.com, the water temperature has cooled to approximately 67 degrees, about 3 degrees lower than last week’s report. The cooler water is the result of the recent rainfall and cooler weather that moved through the area.

Boating Conditions

The recent rise in water levels has improved conditions in many locations around the lake. Even so, boaters should continue using caution. Water levels can change quickly, and submerged hazards may still be present. Always obey navigation markers, wear a life jacket, and use a depth finder whenever possible.
