The Great Sacandaga Lake Water Level Update May 2026 shows the lake continuing to hold steady as we move toward the heart of the summer boating season. As of May 29, 2026, the lake level sits at 768.71 feet, up from 768.25 feet on May 22nd.
This increase of nearly half a foot is welcome news for boaters, waterfront property owners, and visitors planning to enjoy everything the Great Sacandaga Lake has to offer this summer.
Year-Over-Year Comparison
One of the more interesting observations this week is how closely this year’s lake level compares to last year. On May 29, 2025, the lake measured 768.75 feet, meaning today’s level is only 0.04 feet lower than the same date a year ago.
This consistency provides a good indication that lake conditions are tracking similarly to last season and should allow for continued recreational use throughout the coming weeks.
Memorial Day Weekend Brings Activity to the Lake
Memorial Day weekend marked the unofficial start of summer, and it was encouraging to see significant activity across the Great Sacandaga Lake region. Marinas were busy, boats were back in the water, and visitors were supporting local restaurants, campgrounds, and small businesses throughout the area.
The return of boating traffic and tourism is always an important part of the local economy and a sign that another summer season is getting underway.
Current Water Temperatures
Current water temperatures around the lake are ranging from approximately 52 to 64 degrees, depending on location, depth, and exposure to sunlight.
While some coves and shallower areas are warming up, portions of the lake remain cold. Water temperatures below 60 degrees can create a serious risk of hypothermia if someone unexpectedly enters the water.
Boaters, kayakers, paddleboarders, and anglers should continue to exercise caution, wear life jackets, and be prepared for changing conditions.
