The Great Sacandaga Lake water level update for May 17, 2026 shows the lake holding fairly steady as we continue through a cool and wet spring pattern. Current readings are hovering around the upper 768-foot range, which is helping many docks and shoreline properties remain in decent shape heading into the main boating season.
Over the last several weeks, we’ve seen slower movement in lake levels due to inconsistent rainfall and cooler temperatures across the southern Adirondacks. While the lake is not near flood-stage conditions, it also hasn’t seen the strong rise many lakefront owners were hoping for this spring. For comparison, minor flood stage typically begins around 773 feet.
The good news is that marinas are continuing to open, docks are going in, and more boats and jet skis are starting to appear around the lake. Water temperatures are still on the cool side, generally running in the low-50s depending on location and depth, but conditions should improve quickly with a stretch of warmer weather.
From a real estate standpoint, water levels always become a major conversation this time of year. Buyers paying close attention to shoreline depth, dock access, and permit locations are already starting to tour properties around the lake. Sellers with lakefront homes should continue preparing early for summer traffic as we move closer to Memorial Day weekend.
Fishing activity has also started picking up around the Great Sacandaga Lake, especially for northern pike and bass as water temperatures slowly climb.
If the region receives several steady rain events over the next couple of weeks, we could still see a healthy rise before peak summer boating season. Otherwise, levels may continue to fluctuate modestly around current elevations.
